In 1978, a group of citizens interested in fostering the arts in San Angelo formed the Concho Valley Arts Council. It was incorporated that same year, under the leadership of its first president J. Willis Johnson. The Council began as an autonomous entity; however, in 1982, it voted to become part of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce under the Convention and Visitors Bureau. In 1985, the group left the Chamber to once again serve the community as an autonomous arts council. During that same year, its name was changed to the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council. The organization has operated from the Cactus Hotel since 1993.
Our mission:
"To Enhance the arts and culture of San Angelo and the Concho Valley."
The council is overseen by a board of directors serving staggered three-year terms. The directors represent a diverse cross-section of San Angelo bound together by a shared love of the arts.
