Fort Concho is hosting an exhibit of women's clothing from the 1800's on loan from Midland collector Steve Porterfield.  The clothing is in immaculate condition and is all original to the time period as opposed to a Hollywood recreation.  The exhibit is free and open to the public.  Ft. Fort Concho National Historic Landmark is hosting an exhibit of historic Texas documents from the collection of San Angeloan Vickie Bushong.  Items on display include a letter signed by Sam Houston, currency from the Republic of Texas, maps, land deeds warrants and more.  The exhibit is free and open to the public.  It will be on display until mid-June in Barracks 1.  FMI call (325) 481-2646 or www.fortconcho.com

The West Texas Collection at Angelo State University is hosting the exhibit "Spurs of the Moment...1950's to Present". It features more than 40 sets of spurs from the collection of Joe Russell of San Angelo, who has been collecting spurs for more than half a century. Some of the most interesting spurs on exhibit are from the 1600's, with samples of spurs from each century through the 20th century. Weekdays from 10am - 5pm. Free admission.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts presents George Ohr Rising: The Emergence of an American Master, a traveling exhibit on loan from the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, Mississippi. This exhibit accompanies the museum's national ceramic competition. George Ohr was an early American potter who broke new ground when he began experimenting with modern forms and shapes. The exhibit will open April 18th with a reception from 6-9pm and will be on display until June 22nd.

The Angelo State Planetarium is one of the largest and technically sophisticated planetarium theatres located on a university campus.  At the heart of the theatre is the Spitz 512 projector which is capable of projecting over 5,000 stars.  Ring World explores the planet Saturn. The ASU planetarium is located on the first floor of the Vincent Science Building.  $3 adult general admission, $2 for children and senior citizens, no charge for ASU faculty, staff or students.

Join the Arts at ASU for one of Shakespeare's beloved comedies, The Taming of the Shrew. Watch the mayhem unfold as Petruchio woos Katarina, who would be the perfect wife if she weren't an intolerable shrew. From their first explosive meeting, Petruchio subjects Kate to a series of verbal and physical indignities under the pretext of kindness. Despite her superb resistance, Katarina finally becomes a defender of the institution of marriage, which she once despised. The play will be held in ASU's Modular Theatre.

The San Angelo Civic Ballet proudly presents its annual celebration of dance, the Spring Student Showcase. The event, which will be held at ASU's Auditorium, boasts a matinee performance beginning at 2:00 p.m. and an eventing performance beginning at 7:00 p.m. There will be guest dancers from Ballet Austin and Dayton Ballet. The performance will include new choreographic works by Melissa Staheli and Shannon West along with favorite classical repertory pieces. Tickets are $8 adults, $5 children, students and seniors.

Artists and art lovers gather at the Chicken Farm Art Center (2505 Martin Luther King) to celebrate the art spirit. This freewheeling event includes exhibits and demonstrations of pottery, blacksmithing, painting, mosaics, photography, jewelry making and more. Kids get free clay and the Chicken Pickers provide the music. The May 1st Saturday will also play host to the 4th Annual Blues Competition which starts at 2:00pm. Members of the San ANgelo Blues Society are organizing the event. Check it out and catch the art spirit.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts presents Art Thursdays, an interactive program for kids and their entire families. Children of all ages get to experiment and create projects in the Education Studio at the Art Museum. Stop by between 2 - 6 p.m. on Thursdays during the school year to experience four different hands-on art activities. There is always a watercolor and clay table, the other two activities change each month. The cost is $1.00 per person.
