Grant Program Summary

Since 1989, the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council has supported San Angelo's love of the arts and spirit of creativity by distributing grants to other non-profit arts and cultural organizations. Funds are composed of a portion of the city's Hotel Tax Revenue, support from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and money raised by the council.

The grant program is designed to assist local, non-profit, tax-exempt arts and cultural organizations. Financial assistance is granted in order to:

  • Increase the marketing capabilities of local arts organizations to increase tourism.

  • Increase the artistic quality of the applicant's activities.

  • Assist with special projects such as programming, special artistic presentations, and exhibits developed by the applicant.

To qualify, organizations must be non-profits with offices and programs in San Angelo, Texas. The organizations must have been operating as non-profit organizations for at least one year.  Applications are reviewed and ranked by a panel of grant readers. The Cultural Affairs Council's Board of Directors then makes grant allocations based on the panel rankings and funds available. Grant applications are available each year in June. Applications are due IN THE CULTURAL AFFAIRS OFFICE BY NOON on the last business day of August.  Funds are distributed in early November.

Two categories of grants are available: Core Support and Project Support. Core Support grants are designed to enhance the activities of established non-profit arts organizations. Project support grants are designed to assist non-profit organizations that provide other types of community services but deliver arts programming through specific projects such as exhibits, festivals, and concerts. Project support grants will not exceed $2,500.
